Mural Contest
The mural must portray the 2024 Conference theme and how it applies to forest management in the Redwood Region:
2025 Theme: OUR FAMILIES, OUR FORESTS, OUR FUTURE
The mural must be created on wood pulp sheets provided by the Conference. ONE PULP SHEET PER TEACHER.
Murals may be created using crayons, watercolors, poster paints, paper collages, and other unique materials. Use your imagination! Remember, murals will be hung on a wall for display. Murals that are not appropriately designed for wall hanging will be disqualified.
Murals will be judged on their use of the conference theme, creative use of materials, and whole-class participation. They should be age-appropriate, with work done by the students and innovative uses of wood products and design. The murals should be a learning experience for students, demonstrating an understanding of the interrelationship between the forest and human communities, the renewal ability over time of a managed forest, and the many people working together to fulfill the importance of the demand for wood products in our everyday lives.
The teacher’s name, grade, school, and telephone number must be on the inside of a 3x5 card staples on the bottom right-hand corner of the mural facing up so the writing is visible.
Each class not receiving a cash prize will RECEIVE A $50 CASH PARTICIPATION REWARD!
The murals will be divided into two grade categories for judging: K-3rd grades and 4th-8th grades. If you have a 3/4 combination, the mural will be judged in the 4th-8th grade category. Prizes for winning murals in each category are HUMBOLDT/DELNORTE/TRINITY COUNTIES: First Place: $200; Second Place: $150; Third Place: $100; and three Honorable Mention Ribbons of $75 each. MENDOCINO/LAKE COUNTIES: First Place: $200; Second Place: $150; Third Place: $100; and three Honorable Mention Ribbons of $75 each. (Note: Classes winning Cash Prize Awards will not receive an additional $50 Cash Participation Reward.)
Murals must be received for judging no later than Friday, March 7th, 2025, at 4 PM. Please deliver your completed mural to one of the following locations:
Eureka: RRLC Office - 5601 South Broadway (Humboldt Hill) – Phone #707-443-4091

The RRLC reserves the right to reproduce, publish, or publicly display any mural for the RRLC's benefit and to retain ownership of any mural as chosen by the RRLC Education Committee.
The RRLC Education Committee will determine any mural to be inappropriate and disqualify it from being displayed at the conference.
Career Day
Sign-up
Redwood Region Logging Conference is excited to introduce a Natural Resource Career Day in conjunction with its 87th Annual Logging Conference. This year’s conference will be held March 13-15, 2025, at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah, California, with Career Day being held on Friday, March 14th.
We are inviting local sophomores, juniors, senior high school students, and junior college students to attend this event and talk with experts in the timber industry about career possibilities in our region. Students will be introduced to various opportunities as they tour the career “stations” in groups of about ten. Stations will include everything from equipment operators and timber fallers to wildlife biologists. This information will help students understand the varied employment opportunities in the Natural Resource fields.
Preregistration is required, and space is limited. If you have a group of students who would benefit from this opportunity, print the Career Day Sign-up form and return it to the RRLC office by mail, email (rrlc@sonic.net), or fax. You will receive a confirmation following your registration.
For more information, please click on the Registration Form or contact the RRLC office at 707.443.4091.
High School Forestry Contest

The contest will run from noon to approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14th. The top three teams and individuals will be awarded cash prizes. Winners will be announced shortly after the contest, and all prizes will be mailed to your schools.
Participating traveling schools will receive $250 travel assistance for their team. Contact the RRLC office for details.
To provide a quality contest, having a list of your team members sent to the RRLC office ahead of time would be helpful so we can get everything set up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the RRLC office.
Boots on the Ground
Aside from hosting the largest annual timber-related event in Northern CA, the RRLC invites select high school seniors interested in a career in the Timber Industry an opportunity for a more in-depth look at the industry. We call this program, Boots on the Ground. Boots on the Ground was developed as a career day for high school seniors planning to enter the workforce upon graduation. Students spend the day touring active logging sites, and mill tours and make connections with potential employers. They experience firsthand the latest technology within the Timber Industry, from drones to processors designed to keep crews safe. Upon completion of the event and gaining employment within the industry, students are given a voucher to be reimbursed for up to $500 for their first pair of work boots. In 2022, 40 high school seniors from Humboldt, Del Norte, and Mendocino Counties were able to attend one of two Boots on the Ground events. This event will take place in the Spring of 2024, just before school lets out. Be sure to ask your Career Tech, Ag Teacher, or Advisor for more information.
Redwood Region Resource Rally
The Redwood Region Resource Rally is an annual event that takes place each fall in Scotia, CA, home of Humboldt Redwood Co. This program is designed for high school juniors and seniors to explore the various careers in the Timber Industry. About 120 Students from Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake Counties rotate through six venues: Forestry, Mechanics and Heavy Equipment, Timber Harvest, Fisheries, Mill Tour, and Careers Workshops where they are able to ask questions of industry professionals and make valuable industry connections.
